I could sing. I never thought i was good at it, but i never thought i was bad either. I recorded myself singing on my phone for shits and giggles to hear what i sounded like, and it is not good at all. Hopefully the reason is bc my voice is still kind of changing. I'm sure I could also find a teacher or something like that.

Why can't i be like this guy?

I'll trade you my voice for your guitar skills, then, you'd be worse at singing, and couldn't play guitar.

Most bands and singers that are successful are because of their material and lyrics that they write. If you can write good lyrics and good music, you will make it, no matter how bad your voice is, unless your just straight up garbage and you suck terribly.

I have been singing the songs I write for 6 years and my voice has improved as I got older. My advise is to sing songs that are hard to sing, even though you may think you sound bad, it will help build your ability over time. If you do this alot, by the time your about 21, your voice will be strong and matured enough and you'll be a pretty decent singer.

When I think of great singers, I think of Jim Morrision, Elvis Presley, and Bob Dylan. They are ledgends who sing from the soul, yet they wouldn't even pass the first round of American Idol. Thats why I don't like American Idol.

When I saw the thread title (before I read the topic), I immediately thought "I wish I could sing" - probably cause I was just "singing" right now. I don't know if you were being sarcastic about me though. <_< I used to be a lot worse a couple of months ago, my advice is that you just practice a lot.

You could try to get lessons. I was going to get some but they're like $40-50 for one hour. :| Oh and I have some audio-book/tutorials that I might upload and share one day.

What Prez said is good, look at say, Gerard Way, he's not the best singer, but he's distinct, and people like to hear new stuff. Just have your own style, and don't try to sound like anyone else. Sound like boxcarracer.

Yeah you dont have to be a good singer this day and age.. i mean..cheak rappers?

Well yeah anyway you dont have to be able to sing because like...i dunno? its hard to explaine over a keybored but like... You sing how you think people should sing.
NEVER try and sing like someone. Because they you sing every song like that. Like my friend louise. She is obbsessed with michael jackson and has been since she was a kid. And now she sings liek him to everysong she sings.
She did a cover with my band one day because our singer was ill, ... it sounded HORRIBLE!
I mean..try and think what liar by taking back sunday would sound like in a m.j kinda way?...NOT good.

Ben oawdjoiejdfoiewfjijk From billy tallent, Sonny moore from from first to last, or even tom delonge himself in his blink days arnt that good singers..there voices are just distinkt.

And that made no sence at all so ill shush up now.

That might not be the best idea.
I hope you know when I said that, I wanted him to sound like himself, not the band.
